Sony’s smartphone sales have been faltering lately and they aren’t best known for their naming schemes either. According to reports, 2020 is going to be no different as the Japanese tech giant is allegedly working on even more smartphones with confusing model names for next year.
Rumor has it that Sony will introduce 4 Xperia devices into the flagship market and 3 more for the mid-range spectrum. It is believed that the flagships will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC with 5G support, whereas the mid-rangers will come with the Snapdragon 735, also with 5G compatibility.
According to the leak, one of these flagships will be the Sony Xperia 0 which is rumored to have a Hexa primary camera setup in a rectangular cutout.
One of the flagship devices might be the Sony Xperia 3 that showed up in a set of low-resolution leaks. It has an interesting curved back design, triple camera setup, QHD resolution with 21:9 aspect ratio, and 5G connectivity thanks to the SD865 SoC.
All the other upcoming phones are expected to be revisions of Xperia devices that already exist. Sony’s first 2019 flagship, the Xperia 1, will get a successor dubbed Xperia 1.1 with a quad-camera setup and 4K display panel.
The Xperia 5.1 will follow up Xperia 5 with a quad-camera setup of its own and QHD display panel.
As for mid-rangers, the Xperia 10 will get a successor called 10.1 with 5G connectivity. There are no other details available on this device as of yet.
And if this wasn’t confusing enough, the Xperia 10 Plus is also getting a follow-up phone that will, for some reason, be known as the Xperia 9.1 with 5G support.
Most of these phones are expected to be announced at the MWC 2020, while some might be unveiled on the IFA 2020 later on.
