LG’s Velvet has shaped up to be one of its most interesting (at least design-wise) smartphones this year. Scheduled for launch on 7th May, this upper mid-range smartphone has been a center of several leaks and rumors. However, just ahead of its launch, the manufacturer has unveiled the entire list of specifications and features of the upcoming smartphone.

Design and Display

The smartphone comes with a glass and metal combination chassis featuring a 3D arch design, i.e., the left and right edges are curved at the front and the back. LG has ditched the generic camera housing, which is a welcome change. The triple sensor rear camera setup now sits directly on the smartphone’s body arranged like falling water droplets, something LG is very proud of.

On the front, LG velvet comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a tiny dotdrop notch and slightly prominent, but symmetrical, top and bottom bezels. The display comes with 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution, 20.5:9 aspect ratio and 86.9 percent screen to body ratio.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, the smartphone features Qualcomm’s 7nm Snapdragon 765 SoC topped with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. If that is not enough, users also get an option to expand the memory via a dedicated memory card slot.

On the software front, the mid-ranger will come with Android 10 OS coupled with LG’s custom UI.

Additionally, the LG Velvet will come with support for 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1. LG Dual Screen and Stylus Pen.

The triple sensor rear camera system features a 48 MP primary lens, 8 MP ultra-wide shooter, and 5 MP depth sensor. The camera system is equipped with quad binning technology and also comes with a Voice Out Focus feature that removes unwanted sounds while capturing a video, something LG has been working hard on.

For selfies, the smartphone sports a 16 MP lone snapper.

Battery and Pricing

LG Velvet packs a 4,300mAh battery backed by 30W wired charging and 10W wireless charging.

The smartphone will be unveiled at a virtual launch event on 7th May. Between 29th April and 7th May, the manufacturer will be recruiting 300 ‘VELVETist’ to try the smartphone for four weeks. Smartphone sales will begin by 15th May.
