Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip, its second foldable phone. The smartphone, unlike its predecessor, presents a refined look at the category.
The smartphone was launched at Samsung’s unpacked event held yesterday in San Francisco, along with the Company’s most awaited flagship series, the Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup.
Let’s take a look at what the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has in Store for us.
Design and Display
With its all-new foldable form factor, the Galaxy Z Flip has a unique hinge, stronger than the one we saw in previously launched Samsung Galaxy Fold. The phone is a clamshell folding device, and thanks to the hinge, it can hold itself in any position. However, as reported, it is slightly harder to open as compared to its predecessor, as it does not flip like a classic clamshell smartphone.
It is available for sale in Mirror Purple, Mirror Black and Mirror Gold colors. The smartphone is also launched in a Thom Browne edition, featuring the designer’s signature stripes. The phone, its casing, and the galaxy buds are tweaked externally with hard-to-miss red, white, and blue lines on top of a silver background.
Apart from this, it features a horizontally aligned dual rear camera system mounted beside the mini display that shows important notifications and time.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is built around a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display with 2636 x 1080 resolution and a very tall 22:9 aspect ratio. The display features an ultra-thin glass (UTG) and plastic film for protection. Moreover, for the notification display, the phone sports a mini 1.1-inch Super AMOLED always-on display with 112 x 300 pixels resolution.
Internals and Storage
As for the innards, the smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 855+ chipset topped with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB onboard storage. unfortunately, it does not have any storage expansion options.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip runs on One UI 2.1 based Android 10 OS.
Cameras
At the back, the smartphone features a dual-sensor rear camera featuring a 12 MP regular wide sensor and a 12 MP ultra-wide sensor. On the front, it comes with a 10 MP single sensor for selfies.
Battery and Pricing
It is equipped with two batteries that, when combined, total 3300 mAh. The smartphone surprisingly also supports wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will be available in the US and Korea starting February 14th for $1,380.
