Smartphones are prone to catching dust and other particles over time. This can be problematic when dust starts to accumulate in the openings such as the headphone jack, charging port, or the speaker grille.

For that reason, Xiaomi has revealed that the Redmi 8, Redmi 8A and Redmi Note 8 Pro have a “secret” dust removal feature that the company is calling Sonic Dust Removal. This feature helps clear out the dust and gunk accumulated in the smartphone’s speakers.

These Redmi devices can play a custom sound designed to reach the speaker’s maximum amplitude for 30 seconds. Xiaomi claims this helps clear out the dust by pure force without affecting speaker quality.

Redmi 8 and 8A Specifications

Redmi 8 and 8A siblings are budget smartphones that sport 6.2″ IPS LCD HD+ displays. They also feature P2i nano-coating for splash resistance.

They’re powered by the Snapdragon 439 SoC and have a memory configuration of 4GB/32GB. Both phones are equipped with the Sony IMX363 camera sensor, which is the same sensor used in 2018 flagship devices including Google Pixel 3 and Pocophone F1. They feature massive 5,000 mAh batteries and 18W fast charging as well.

Their current market price is only $92 and $113 for the Redmi 8A and 8 respectively.
